Alamo Drafthouse Takes On Distro With "Four Lions" «
My love for the Alamo Drafthouse is a big part of why I’m still kicking around this town even though I’ve been unemployed for six months. Honestly, they’ve spoiled me for the rest of my life. It would be difficult for me to live someplace where I couldn’t have the Drafthouse experience.
Film distribution is not an easy game, but Tim League and the Drafthouse crew just announced DRAFTHOUSE FILMS and their first release will be the acclaimed terrorism satire from Chris Morris called Four Lions.
Having a movie theater jump into releasing films is not unprecedented. Chicago’s Music Box Films have made quite a name for themselves by releasing high quality foreign films like Tell No One and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
I am excited to see what the Drafthouse can do with this venture. I can guarantee that they’ll be championing some films that might be a tough sell, but will hopefully find an audience with their support. It’s also exciting that the movies will open in New York, Los Angeles, and Austin first. When I was in Ohio, all I wanted was to live in a “select city.” Now I do.
